Climate & Sustainability: Protecting Our Green Spaces and Climate Future
Protect our green spaces, accelerate clean energy, and ensure climate action reaches every community equitably.
My Approach
Climate change is here, and it hits our most vulnerable communities hardest. As a father of four, I think about the county we're leaving our kids. And as someone committed to environmental justice, I know that Black and Brown communities disproportionately bear the burden of pollution and climate impacts. We need bold action to protect our green spaces, accelerate clean energy, and build a sustainable future for everyone.
What I Will Do As County Executive
- Protect parks, tree canopy, and green spaces from overdevelopment
- Prioritize stormwater management to prevent flooding in vulnerable communities
- Advance county transition to clean energy and meet climate goals
- Ensure climate action centers equity for fair distribution of benefits and burdens
- Invest in bike and pedestrian infrastructure
What I Have Done
- Co-led passage of Maryland's first comprehensive building decarbonization law
- Partnered with U.S. Energy Secretary Jennifer Granholm for SolarAPP+ solar permitting streamlining
- Secured strong no-net-loss forest conservation policy
- Supported dedicated Green Bank funding
- Strengthened energy benchmarking standards and expanded C-PACE program
