WTOP reports that Will Jawando has won the Democratic primary for Montgomery County executive, defeating four other candidates with 40% of the vote. His closest competitor, Councilmember Andrew Friedson, conceded the race after receiving 34%.
“157 days from today, I will get sworn in on Dec. 1, and we’re going to need to make sure that we hit the ground running.”
Jawando told WTOP his priorities include improving schools, making housing affordable, and growing the economy:
“We need to make housing more affordable, and that means building more near transit, but also not doing developer giveaways for luxury housing.”
Jawando faces the general election on Tuesday, November 3, 2026.
