Montgomery Community Media reported on hateful Islamophobic graffiti discovered on an outside wall at Walt Whitman High School in Bethesda, prompting a strong condemnation from Councilmember Will Jawando, who chairs the County Council’s Education and Culture Committee and whose children attend MCPS.
“I am outraged by the vile, hate-filled graffiti discovered today at Walt Whitman High School. I find it unacceptable for any child to walk into a place of learning and be met with calls for the obliteration of their people or their faith.”
— Will Jawando
The vandalism, which included Islamophobic slurs and violent messages, was discovered Friday morning and quickly covered and removed by school administrators. Montgomery County Police are investigating the incident, and no suspects have been identified. The graffiti drew broad condemnation from county officials and community leaders alike.
