Maryland State Treasurer Dereck E. Davis has endorsed Will Jawando for Montgomery County Executive.
“Will Jawando understands that fiscal responsibility and progressive values go hand-in-hand. He’s shown he can make the tough calls and still stand up for our working families, our schools, and our workforce. Montgomery County needs that kind of steady, serious leadership, and that’s why I’m proud to endorse him for County Executive.”
— Dereck E. Davis, Maryland State Treasurer
Treasurer Davis spent 27 years in the House of Delegates, chaired the Economic Matters Committee, and now serves as Maryland’s chief fiscal officer. He sits on the Board of Revenue Estimates and chairs the Capital Debt Affordability Committee. When it comes to budgets, debt, and protecting taxpayers, he has spent a career in the room where those decisions get made.
The endorsement comes as Montgomery County stares down one of the toughest budget cycles in recent memory — federal job cuts, economic uncertainty, and rising costs for working families all hitting at the same time. Will has put forward a budget framework that protects working families from a property tax hike, fully funds public schools, keeps faith with the workers who make this county run, and asks only those earning over $500,000 to pay a little more.
“That is what fiscal discipline looks like when it’s paired with real values,” Jawando said. “Not austerity. Not gimmicks. A budget that respects the people who pay the bills and the people who keep this county running.”
