Council Vice President Will Jawando joined Councilmember Kristin Mink, County Executive Marc Elrich, and tenant leaders for the introduction of Bill 6-25, which would remove an exemption for landlord and tenant issues under consumer protection law, providing additional enforcement mechanisms when landlords repeatedly fail to cure housing code violations.
“This bill is about fairness and accountability. Landlords who engage in deceptive practices should not be shielded from liability.”
— Council Vice President Will Jawando
The bill is cosponsored by Councilmember Kristin Mink (lead), Vice President Jawando, Council President Kate Stewart, and Councilmember Dawn Luedtke, with support from Action in Montgomery (AIM), SEIU Local 500, UFCW Local 1994, CASA, Enclave Tenants Association, Jews United for Justice, and others.
