Jawando Introduces Bill to Create Hiring Preference for Displaced Federal Workers

Council Vice President Will Jawando introduced Expedited Bill 10-25, Personnel and Human Resources — Hiring Displaced Federal Workers, to create a County government hiring preference for displaced federal employees who reside in Montgomery County.

Over 1,000 Montgomery County residents have lost federal employment due to recent personnel changes under the Trump administration. The bill was cosponsored by Councilmembers Andrew Friedson, Kristin Mink, Laurie-Anne Sayles, Marilyn Balcombe, and Council President Kate Stewart.

Anthony Featherstone, Executive Director of WorkSource Montgomery, and displaced federal workers joined councilmembers at the announcement.
