The Montgomery County Council elected Councilmember Will Jawando as Vice President alongside new Council President Kate Stewart for one-year terms. Stewart, representing District 4, is the first woman from the all-female majority elected in 2022 to serve in Council leadership.
“It is an incredible honor to have the trust and support of my colleagues in this new leadership role.”
— Council Vice President Will Jawando
As Education & Culture Committee chair, Jawando has championed high-quality education and educator support. He led Montgomery County’s first permanent rent stabilization measure and continues advocating for renter protections and balanced housing policies.
Council President Stewart outlined shared priorities including planning sustainable futures through climate, transportation, housing, and economic initiatives; addressing community mental health needs; and ensuring safety and dignity for all residents.
“We are bigger than one person alone. We are stronger when we put our heads together, roll up our sleeves and work to support the common good.”
— Council President Kate Stewart
