My Approach
Great public schools changed my life. That's why I've dedicated my career to fighting for every child's right to an excellent education. But our schools are under pressure. Class sizes are too big. Buildings are crumbling. We're not doing enough to support special education, mental health, and the educators who make it all work. And now, extremists are targeting inclusive curricula and the very idea of public education.
What I Will Do As County Executive
- Fully fund schools with smaller classes, more counselors, modernized buildings
- Expand Pre-K so every child starts ready to learn
- Fix crumbling school infrastructure — no student should learn in buildings with broken HVAC
- Support and retain great teachers by addressing housing costs and working conditions
- Defend educators and students against political attacks on inclusive education
What I Have Done
- Chaired the Education Committee and held MCPS accountable through nearly 100 oversight sessions
- Fought for full MCPS funding, expanded Pre-K, and mental health supports for students and educators
- Championed restorative justice practices to ensure every student feels safe, welcomed, and valued
- Secured a line-by-line clickable budget so the public can see exactly where education dollars go
