Equity & Civil Rights
Fighting for Justice at Every Level
I grew up witnessing racial disparities firsthand: in our schools, our neighborhoods, and our economy. That lit a fire in me. At Catholic University, I organized and led the creation of the school's first NAACP chapter. I went on to work as a civil rights attorney. And on the County Council, I've worked to dismantle the systemic barriers that hold people back. Montgomery County should be a place where everyone—regardless of race, ethnicity, gender, or background—has a fair shot.
What I Will Do As County Executive:
What I Have Done:
Embed equity in every county decision, not as an afterthought but as a foundation
Ensure county resources reach the communities that have been historically underserved
Defend our diverse communities against attacks on inclusion and civil rights
Invest in programs that close opportunity gaps and build generational wealth
Lead co-sponsor of the Racial Equity and Social Justice Act, embedding equity considerations in all county decisions
Introduced and passed the historic CROWN Act, making Montgomery County the first county in the nation to ban discrimination based on natural hairstyles
Authored a council resolution declaring racism a public health crisis
Founded the first NAACP chapter at Catholic University
Consistently stood up against systemic discrimination on the Council
