Thank you

Dear friends,

After a lot of thought and prayer and late nights with my wife Michele, I’ve decided to end my campaign for the U.S. Senate. I know this will come as a disappointment to many, but I cannot in good conscience remain in a race, and ask you to keep donating your time and resources if I do not see a path to victory.

I entered this race six months ago because I believe we need strong Democratic voices in the U.S. Senate. I still see that need. Right now, war is raging across the globe while here in America, many can’t afford to put food on the table for their families. Instead of meeting our crisis with bold action, Congress is in chaos, allowing far-right extremists to stall the business of running our country.

The bold solutions we gave a national spotlight to — from Universal Basic Income and Medicare for All, to raising the minimum wage and reforming our criminal justice system — do not end here. Our movement for progressive change and commitment to building a shared prosperity for all can not and does not end with this campaign.

As I told my team, “This is a comma, not a period.” For our movement, and my work in public service. I’m not going anywhere — I will still be proudly serving my constituents on the Montgomery County Council, pushing forward historic reforms on the local level.

To all who stood with us in this campaign: thank you. Thank you for chipping in a grassroots donation, talking to voters with us in the pouring rain and blistering heat, and putting your faith in me and our shared vision. Even if you weren’t sure who you wanted to support in this race, but took the time to listen and engage with me, thank you. I am so proud to have walked in this movement alongside you, and I look forward to continuing to fight another day together.
