AS COUNTY EXECUTIVE: RENTERS CAN COUNT ON WILL
1. BUILD HOUSING THAT WORKS
- Truly affordable housing: Not just "market-rate with a few units set aside"—Will's prioritizing deeply affordable housing for teachers, nurses, first responders, childcare workers, and the workforce that keeps our county running.
- Growth with communities, not displacement: Will respects our master planning process and will ensure new housing is built WITH communities—not forced on them in ways that displace current renters or strain infrastructure.
- Community voice over developer profits: Will's track record proves it: he always stands up to powerful interests to ensure working families get a fair deal.
2. PUSH FOR STATEWIDE CHANGE
- Good Cause eviction protections: Evictions should require a legitimate reason—not just because a landlord wants to jack up rent. Will's fighting alongside community advocates to pass Good Cause protections at the state level.
- Statewide renter protections: Many of the strongest renter protections can only come from Annapolis. Will's committed to using his platform as County Executive to push the General Assembly for bolder action on behalf of renters across Maryland.
3. PROTECT & ENFORCE
- Protect rent control: Will authored landmark rent stabilization laws capping runaway rent increases. As County Executive, he'll defend these protections against any attempts to weaken them.
- Invest in enforcement: Our Department of Housing and Community Affairs (DHCA) runs award-winning programs serving 20,000+ residents—but they need more resources to enforce renters' rights. Will's investing in the people who protect us.
- Hold bad actors accountable: Most landlords play by the rules. But for those who don't, Will will use every tool to protect renters and fix problems.
