Innovating for Working Families
Breaking Cycles, Building Wealth
Too many families in Montgomery County work hard and still can't get ahead. The gap between those who have wealth and those who don't keeps growing, and it's not because people aren't trying—it's because the system wasn't built to help everyone succeed. I believe we have a responsibility to challenge the status quo and support policies that invest directly in people. That’s the only way to break cycles of poverty, and give every family a real shot at building wealth.
What I Will Do As County Executive:
What I Have Done:
Expand guaranteed income based on MoCo BOOST's proven success
Implement Baby Bonds so every child starts adulthood with real resources to build on
Use the county's financing authority to help residents refinance student loans at lower rates—a self-sustaining program that eases debt burdens without ongoing taxpayer costs
Continue pioneering evidence-based policies that invest in people, not just programs
Championed MoCo BOOST, a guaranteed income pilot providing 300 low-income families $800/month for two years—and the results showed families paid down debt, went back to school, and bought homes and cars
Advocated for Baby Bonds to build generational wealth for every child born in Montgomery County
Fought for progressive taxation to provide relief to working families while ensuring those with the most contribute their fair share
