Housing
Produce, Preserve, Protect
I know what housing instability does to a family because I lived it. Growing up, my mom and I moved from apartment to apartment across Montgomery County searching for something we could afford. Today, too many families face the same struggle: housing costs are out of control, working people are being pushed out, and seniors who built this county can't afford to stay. I believe housing is a human right, and I refuse to accept a system that subsidizes luxury units while working families get squeezed out.
What I Will Do As County Executive:
What I Have Done:
Produce truly affordable housing near Metro and transit—not luxury units working families can't affordExpand Pre-K so every child starts ready to learn
Preserve existing affordable housing and help seniors age in place with dignity
Protect renters from displacement and predatory landlords through strong enforcement—and ensure developers pay their fair share
Authored landmark rent stabilization legislation, capping annual increases and keeping thousands of families in their homes
Voted to establish the $100 million Housing Production Fund, creating thousands of new affordable units
Introduced "More Housing for More People" (ZTA 20-07)—zoning reform to allow duplexes, triplexes, and missing middle housing near transit
