Prosperity:
Support Global Moral Leadership

“Let’s not forget that freedom is more powerful than fear. That we have always met challenges, whether war or depression, natural disasters or terrorist attacks, by coming together around our common ideals as one nation and one people.” — Former President Barack Obama

The Issue

Across the world, America's global standing took a catastrophic hit during the tenure of Donald Trump and the cumulative impact of decades of hawkish foreign policies -- from both parties. The Trump administration's approach to international relations, characterized by a xenophobic "America First" stance and a propensity for unilateral decision-making, led to strained alliances and raised doubts about the U.S.’s commitment to global cooperation. It also left a void in global leadership on critical issues such as human rights and freedom of the press, allowing nations who hold contempt for both concepts to feel empowered to trample on them. This departure from traditional diplomacy and multilateralism diminished America's reputation as a reliable partner. The world needs to know that America is a nation built upon shared values, and the stains of our past are not representative of our future.

What I Will Do in the Senate

  • The essence of America lies in its dedication to democracy. As we engage with nations around the globe, we'll continue to support and promote democratic principles, transparent governance, and human rights. It's a straightforward commitment: when nations thrive in openness and freedom, the world becomes a more stable place for all.

  • Open dialogue and cooperation are cornerstones of effective foreign relations. By strengthening our diplomatic efforts, we can foster better international relationships, leading to mutual benefits and shared successes. America's strength lies not just in our ability to lead, but also in our capacity to collaborate and listen.

  • National security encompasses more than traditional defense measures. Today, it includes addressing challenges like cyber threats, public health crises, and environmental concerns. We must take a holistic approach, ensuring that our strategies are comprehensive and adaptable to the changing landscape.

  • Vladimir Putin’s unjust war against the Ukrainian people has taken an unthinkable toll on the world and led to nearly 500,000 lives lost. To honor our commitment to the Ukrainian people, ensure Russia learns that it cannot encroach on sovereign nations, and make clear the U.S.’s stance as a global leader, I will support continued funding to the Ukrainian people in their fight for their future.
